Happy Women’s Equity Day! Everything is still terrible

I’m not 100% sure what we’re celebrating, just being able to vote I guess…unless you’re a woman of color living in a state that requires the Voters’ Rights Act be enforced in order for you to exercise your rights. But hey, most women can vote. My twitter feed is blowing up with Women’s Equity Day stuff and the murder of two journalists on television. So really, I’m going to pass on a lot today. In regards to both, you just see empty language saying the same old thing: women’s equity now, we need more representation, gun control. But what everyone means is today we’ll talk about all this, but once tomorrow comes you’re all on your own.

Let’s see what is still terrible:
  • Anti-choice laws gaining traction nationally (specifically women’s health as a bargaining chip and base unifire, regardless of the health needs of women)
  • Misogynist GOP Presidential candidates
  • The straight up open season on Trans women of color
  • Anti-welfare legislation
  • Rape victim shaming and blaming
  • General sexual and gender based violence
  • Pay gap
  • Lack of representation in government at every level
  • Women disproportionately live in poverty

So congratulations everyone for caring about women’s equity today.
