Movie Review: Towelhead

I have been really bad about watching movies lately because I've been almost stricktly watching TV boxsets from Christmas, but over the weekend Tim and I watched Towelhead so I thought I would tell you about it.

I don't know about you, but I really like movies that can force some sort of emotion from me, and this movie really made me angry and disgusted (but in a good way, you know?). Through most of the movie my face was contorted in various expressions of digust (see fig. 1) at the actions of the characters. The basic story behind this movie is a 13 year old Arab-American girl moves to Texas to live with her father after her mother throws her out for being too attractive to her (the mother's) boyfriend. The beginning of the movie shows her dealing with the typical biggoted remarks and other such things you would expect from a town in Texas in 2002, but moves to a grossly sexual plot. Let me just say, I did not get such action as a 13 year old. Yikes. It became very hard to watch to be honest and though it was good, I don't know that I could watch it again.

Also, Aaron Eckhart plays a particularly despicable character (fig 2) and it leads me to wonder if he will always be typecast as such. Tim and I laughed at the thought that he was the most relatable in Batman (pre-acid bath obviously).

3.5/5
