I learned something new today...Today is Denim Day

Denim Day is a day to remember and participate in a movement to resist violence against women. There is a history here, as there always is. Italy 1992, a 18 year old girl was raped by her driving instructor. He threatens her, but she presses charges; he was convicted. He appealed the sentence, and the Italian Supreme Court not only hear the case, but dismissed the charges. Wait for it: "because the victim wore very, very tight jeans, she had to help him remove them, and by removing the jeans it was no longer rape but consensual sex.”

The women of the Italian Parliament responded to the verdict with outrage and organized a protest with what else, but blue jeans. The California Senate and Assembly were motivated to do the same, and Denim Day was born.

Unfortunately, I learned of Denim Day this afternoon, and it was too late to really participate, but in spirit.
