One would think that after a Obama was elected President-Elect the Anti-Choicers might reevaluate their approach, but of course not. Some have by supporting legislation which would cut down on the number of abortions needed by improving women's health care, providing poor women with health care, child care, and money for education. But the hard-core anti-choicers think this is selling out, because according to Joe Scheilder, founder of Pro-Life Action League, "We don't think it's really genuine. You don't have to have a lot of social programs to cut down on abortions."
Another gem: Judie Brown, the president of the American Life League, "You don't work to limit the murder of innocent victims. You work to stop it." Brilliant! Guess they haven't figured out the two, supporting bills and good old fashion yelling, aren't mutually exclusive. Many anti-choicers have figured this out though and are working developing new strategies when the ones which have been used for years fail.
Of course, the Catholic Church and the Pope don't agree. The Church having been a pillar of rationality for so long. The Vatican is getting a little nervous about Obama signing the Freedom of Choice Act. This act would undo some of the restrictions to abortion, and the Church would see it as a declaration from Washington that they are unwilling to work with the Church.
Interesting, isn't to have a President more interesting in nations and foreign policy than religion. I'm giddy.
