Uruguayan Senate wants to decriminalise abortion.

According to the BBC News, the Uruguayan Senate has voted to decriminalise abortion, which currently only allowed in the case of rape or when the woman's life is in danger.  The new legislation would allow women to terminate their pregnancies with in the first twelve weeks for the previous reasons and other circumstances such as poverty.  The President Tabare Vazquez is expected to veto the bill.  The Roman Catholic Church in Uruguay has warned the lawmakers that voting for the bill would result in excommunication.  Polls show that most Uruguayans are in favor of easing the restrictions on abortion.  Currently, Cuba and Mexico City allow abortions without restrictions in the first twelve weeks.  However, many Latin American countries only allow abortion in the case of rape, danger to the mother, or when the fetus would be deformed.
