Taking energy conservation to new heights

It is absolutely amazing what we can do with technology these days. While reading Gizmodo this morning, I found this article stating that a few smaller towns in Germany have started turning off their street lights at night to save energy. Sounds dangerous, right? Nope! As long as you have your cell phone on you, you can turn them back on.

So far, the program has been met with modest success. In the small town with a big name Morgenröthe-Rautenkranz, the citizens were given the ability to turn on street light with their cell. So far, they've managed to save $5,300. Not too bad for a town of only 900.

Very interesting, however, I can't really imagine even the smaller American towns doing soemthing like this.
