Three Democrats walked out of a House Oversight and Government Reform hearing this morning on religious liberty and the use of birth control to protest Chairman Darrell Issa's (R.-CA) refusal to allow a progressive woman to testify in favor of the Obama administration's contraception rule. See image above, these were the men on the panel all from conservative religious organizations.
Women were suspiciously left out of the panel, but that must be because it isn't about birth control. The three members who left were Carolyn Maloney (D.-NY), Eleanor Holmes Norton (D.-DC), and Mike Quigley (D.-IL). There were 10 witnesses testifying during the hearing, but none of them are in favor of the Obama administration's birth control rule and only a few are women. Barry Lynn, the executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, was noted as a witness, but will not be testifying, intend he will be submitting written testimony.
Democrat tried to invite a young woman to testify, but they were blocked by Republicans.
I think the real question is why would we have thought that women should be involved in discussions regarding birth control? I mean, trust women? Please. If they could handle anything they wouldn't be under constant attack. I'm simply amazed by the crazy that is happening. Really, this is happening in 2012?
