Fr. Roy Bourgeois was dismissed by the Catholic Church

Fr. Roy is the man behind the SOA protest every year. He has been formally canonically dismissed from the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America (or the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers as they are also known). This strips Fr. Roy of his scared bonds.

Fr. Roy Bourgeois participated in the ordination of a woman and a mass in 2008 in Lexington, Kentucky in 2008. The press release claims the Holy See and the Maryknoll Society have encouraged his reconciliation with the Catholic Church. I like to imagine Fr. Roy doing that not impressed meme when this was happening.

The press release continues to say this:

"Instead, Mr. Bourgeois chose to campaign against the teachings of the Catholic Church in secular and non-Catholic venues. This was done without the permission of the local US Catholic Bishops and while ignoring the sensitivities of the faithful across the country. Disobedience and preaching against the teachings of the Catholic Church about women's ordination led to his excommunication, dismissal and laicization."

Fr. Roy did make his own decisions about all of this, and as far as I'm concerned he choose correctly. The Maryknolls are sending him warm wishes and thanks for his service. I've never been very faithful, but I have nothing, but respect for this man. He is an inspiration and a revolutionary. The Catholic Church and Bishops are purging the likes of him from their rolls, no wonder the Catholic Church is hemorrhaging members and completely out of touch with reality.

Beat and Sexually Assaulted by the Police

Female protesters in Egypt were beat and sexually assaulted by the police. However, one of the protesters, Nora Younis, has filed suit against the police for the assault. So you maybe asking yourself, where's her evidence? A CD of pictures from the protest. The state decline press charges, but being a blogger and pretty well known at that things may turn around for her.

This article also mentions women who are seeking freedoms not only employing new media, but also within their faith. These women aren't demanding the freedoms I think of when I think of religious equality, Fr. Roy and women being priests, but rather just demanding the ability to better understand their faith.

Fr. Roy Bourgeouis is threatened with excommunication

This makes me so sad.  I love Fr. Roy; he is the man responsible for the protest at the School of the Americas.  It takes place every year in November outside of Fort Benning; this year it will be held November 21-23.  Fr. Roy is a Maryknoll, and anyone familiar with the Catholic Church knows that Maryknoll and Jesuit are synonymous with bad ass.  Fr. Roy is being threatened with excommunication because of he supports women's ordination.  Fr. Roy is an awesome individual, and hopefully he won't recant and the Church will withdraw this complaint.  However, my aunt (Humility of Mary Sister) was accused of "not being a real Catholic" once and that is a difficult accusation to dodge especially if you don't want to take back actions.
