45% of schools with more than 1,000 students reported zero rape cases for 2012. Shenanigans!

Bullshit, friends, bullshit. The Washington Post put together some scary information. Essentially, they list out schools across the US with more than 1,000 students and the number of rapes that school reported. Fun fact, Penn State is number one with all of 56 reported rapes. Additionally, as the title of this post points out, 45% of schools are claiming no rapes. Yeah, that’s not true. Estimates put the number of sexual assaults at 1 in 5 college aged women. That is a conservative estimate. So unless some small school has the entirety of their population sexually assaulted then someone is fibbing.

Shame, shame on you US colleges and universities. I haven’t seen the hard data, but I’m going to say it, these figures are statistically improbable. So if these schools aren’t covering up rapes, which is an impossibility folks, then students are afraid to come forward and report. The general rule of thumb being discussed is that if a school has a low number of reported rapes that doesn’t mean there are no rapes; it means “something is rotten in the state of Denmark.”

Some of the low-lights from the total number of sexual assaults reported between 2010 and 2012:

• Penn State: 84
• John Carroll University: 7
• The George Washington University: 37
• University of Maryland, Baltimore: 0

All of this brings me back to my main question of the summer: how do we get The Washington Post to stop talking about rape? This might be the question of our time.

New Pope and Biden being Biden

I'm not really going to say much about Pope Francis today. However, I will say that when Bill says he's optimistic about the Pope then maybe we pay a little closer attention. Bill said:

Mt 25:31-46). Only those who serve with love are able to protect!'

"That's what we were taught at John Carroll University. We were made men and women for others and to do unselfishly and with love more than we thought we could. Always AMDG."

John Carroll University Staff and Administrators to Take Unpaid Leave

The student body of John Carroll University is pretty conservative, but leave it to the leftist faulty and administration at good old JCU. Apparently, Fr. Niehoff is trying to save student aid by have the administration take an unpaid two weeks off and the faulty will be voting on pay cuts, but that vote won't happen until after spring break (which is currently going on). The endowment fund fell from 170 million to 133 million. The school provides 33 million in funds for student aid, and having been a recipient of some of that I hope they can keep it going. I'm not trying to read into it one way or the other that Professor Berg was not reachable for comment.

Tuition rose of course to $27,940, which is a 2.8 increase the smallest one year increase in JCU's history. I look forward to my fellow alum's comments.

I am unsure about pay cuts; I love my professors, and actually spent part of this afternoon writing thank you notes to a few of them. I don't want them to give up pay, hell I think they should be paid more. However, if the endowments down then what other options are there without cutting student aid? The student aid that subsidized by education.
