Mayor Bloomberg instructed the protesters to clean up the park. Additionally, he sent the police in to shut down the protest. However, more than 3,000 people came to Liberty Plaza in the pre-dawn this morning to defend #OccupyWallStreet. The multinational real estate firm, Brookfield Properties postponed the cleanup, and Mayor Bloomberg told the NYPD to stand down on orders to remove protesters. More than 300,000+ Americans signed petitions to stop the eviction and flooded the 311 phone network in support of the protesters, which obviously influenced Mayor Bloomberg. Donations came in in bulk to show support for the protesters, which include domestic donations and donations form the international community: Italy, England, Mexico, etc. The threaten shutdown was an attempt to shutdown a peaceful assembly.
Tomorrow, October 15, is a global day of action against Wall Street greed. So fat 951 cities in 82 countries are organizing for tomorrow.
Just recap, people resisted a shutdown, and they won. This is a good sign.
