Domestic Violence and the Cleveland case

So Chris Hayes did a segment on domestic violence and Cleveland's kidnapping case. It is pretty good. I think we should also note that while Charles Ramsey served time for felony domestic violence he still saw a situation he thought was a domestic incident and he acted anyway. A testament to his personal change, and the importance of bystander intervention. A man who served his time for the very situation he intervened in. I would also note that men of color with arrest records maybe reluctant in calling the police or interfering. An added bonus about the clip, Connie Schultz is on it and wonderful. Finally, Castro was charged, but his brothers were not. Cleveland police says there is not evidence that they had any involvement or even knowledge of the kidnappings.

I like to shun as much as the next person...

Those of you who had the privilege of my company this weekend know I love to shun people; I channel Dwight K Schrute. This however is wildly inappropriate.

A young girl, 8, was raped by four boys, ages ranging from 9 to 14, and after the girl is being shunned by her family. The family and the accused boys are Liberian; sadly, this reaction while being protested around the globe is not shocking. Many women face reactions like this after being sexually assaulted. The girl is now in foster care.

The 14 year old boy is being charged as an adult with sexual assault and kidnapping. The other boys are being charged as juveniles with sexual assault, and the 10 and 13 year olds are being charged with kidnapping as well.

What's a Kidnapping Between Family

Yep, a woman was kidnapped by her parents because she is a Hindu.   The parents are claiming she is mentally ill, and they are attempting to force her into a marriage.  Dr. Humayra Abedin was living in London far from her native country of Bangladesh.  The Bangladesh courts have given the family till December 14 to produce her and prove she is mentally ill.  A British lawyer with the British government are working to free her based on the Forced Marriage Act.  

This disturbs me on so many levels.  It is such a nightmare!  Parents kidnapping their child because they disapprove of who she is dating...I would have been confined since high school.
